A website isn’t a “set it and forget it” project. Like a car, it runs best with regular maintenance. Use this checklist to keep yours in shape.
Every month
- Update WordPress, your theme and your plugins, ideally after testing on a staging copy.
- Confirm your backups are running and stored somewhere other than your web server.
- Submit your own contact and quote forms to make sure the emails arrive.
- Check that your phone number, hours and address are correct.
- Look at your analytics: visits, calls and form submissions.
Every quarter
- Test your site speed on a phone and fix any new slowdowns.
- Scan for broken links and missing images.
- Remove plugins you no longer use.
- Refresh your homepage with a new offer, photo or customer story.
- Review your Google Business Profile and reply to new reviews.
Every year
- Renew your domain and SSL certificate, or confirm they renew automatically.
- Review your privacy policy and terms with your attorney.
- Check accessibility basics: color contrast, alt text and keyboard navigation.
- Compare your site with your top competitors and decide what to improve next.
Rather not do it yourself?
Our Website Maintenance plans handle all of this for you, with a plain-English report each month.
